Description

The settlement of Blatna Brezovica is situated next to the Lipovec trench, slightly southeast of the alleged settlement of Smrečnica, and southwest of the village of Blatna Brezovica. In 1942, the locals came across a pile-dwelling settlement while trenching Lipovec. Eleven years later, Josip Korošec researched an area of 304 m2 on the 408 CM Blatna Brezovica parcel, and came across the remains of a pile-dwelling which he placed in the Bronze Age. Following researchers, cast off the datation in the Bronze Age, and placed the settlement correctly in the period of the Baden culture. In 2003, the team of tthe Institute of Archaeology, Scientific Research Centre at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences performed another research on the Korošec’s excavation site for the purposes of archaeological-dendrochronological studies, and in doing so, acquired a larger amount of appropriate wood for datation. The results show that the settlement can be placed in the period around 3070 BC. / The settlement of Blatna Brezovica is situated next to the Lipovec trench, slightly southeast of the alleged settlement of Smrečnica, and southwest of the village of Blatna Brezovica.
