Archaeological and dendrochronological research and radiocarbon dating show that this settlement is from around the first half of the fourth millennium BC (around 3500 BC: radiocarbon dating, wiggle-matching, teleconnection with the curves from Spodnje mostišče, Spodnje mostišče 2, Črešnja pri Bistri, Stare gmajne and Stare gmajne 2. / Archaeological and dendrochronological research and radiocarbon dating show that this settlement is from around the first half of the fourth millennium BC (around 3500 BC: radiocarbon dating, wiggle-matching, teleconnection with the curves from Spodnje mostišče, Spodnje mostišče 2, Črešnja pri Bistri, Stare gmajne and Stare gmajne 2.

Description

The settlement of Maharski prekop is situated on the meadows northeast of a meander of the Iščica. In 1953, the site was discovered by Staško Jesse. From 1970 to 1977, Tatjana Bregant researched an area of 1208 m2. This was the most extensive research on the Ljubljansko barje after the Second World War. They came across numerous archaeological findings (pottery, stone items, decorative items, animal bones …), and at a glance a well-preserved stratigraphy. In 2005, the team of the Institute of Archaeology, Scientific Research Centre at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences carried out documenting and sampling of wood for the dendrochronological research in the area of the excavation site of Tatjana Bregant. The site is still very interesting for future archaeological research, although a large part of it has already been exvacated. In addition, in the already researched part of the site, almost all vertical piles are still preserved. The stratigraphy of the site seems problematic. As already mentioned, it is well-preserved at first glance, since in the area very intensive functioning of running waters is ensured. / The settlement of Maharski prekop is situated on the meadows northeast of a meander of the Iščica.
