Description

The settlement of Resnikov prekop is situated on fallow Gornje mostišče between the Resnikov kanal (prekop) and the Iščica. In 1953, the site was discovered by workers during trenching works on the Resnikov kanal. In the 1950’s, Staško Jesse researched the site with several test pits. But the excavation led by Josip Korošec in 1962, are the most important; he excavated an area of 160 m2. In addition to the remains of a prehistoric settlement, he also came across findings from the Roman period. In 2002, the team of the Institute of Archaeology, Scientific Research Centre at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences dig three test pits with an overall surface area of 33 m2 along the excavation site of Josip Korošec. It was established that the prehistoric cultural layer is entirely eroded which most probably happened in the period of later prehistory. An extremely interesting site was archeologically speaking destroyed, most likely in later prehistory – i.e. more than 4000 years after the settlement was abandoned – when the cultural layer was eroded. From the prehistoric settlement there are preserved vertical piles in situ; on some spots also a larger amount of so called Resnik’s (pile-dwelling) pottery and other archaeological findings can be found. / The settlement of Resnikov prekop is situated on fallow Gornje mostišče between the Resnikov kanal (prekop) and the Iščica.
