Dendrochronological research and radiocarbon dating indicate that this settlement is from the first half of the 34th century BC: radiocarbon dating (3425-3335 cal BC (1-sigma)), wiggle-matching, dendrochronological curve, teleconnection with the curves from Spodnje mostišče 2, Maharski prekop, Črešnja pri Bistri and Stare gmajne 2 (LB). / Dendrochronological research and radiocarbon dating indicate that this settlement is from the first half of the 34th century BC: radiocarbon dating (3425-3335 cal BC (1-sigma)), wiggle-matching, dendrochronological curve, teleconnection with the curves from Spodnje mostišče 2, Maharski prekop, Črešnja pri Bistri and Stare gmajne 2 (LB).

Description

The settlement of Spodnje mostišče is situated in the Iščica and on the field and meadows on its right bank, on fallow Spodnje mostišče. The site of piles or pile-dwelling in the Iščica was discovered in 1876, and is today also known as the so called the 4th Deschmann's pile-dwelling. In 1996 and 1997, the team of the Institute of Archaeology, Scientific Research Centre at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences documented and sampled wood in the riverbed of the Iščica for dendrochronological studies. In 2005, during research on Maharski prekop, pile-dwelling findings (pottery, stone axe) were discovered on the newly ploughed up field on the parcel 1256 CM Studenec-Ig, confirming that the settlement has spread to what is now the right bank of the Iščica. Findings belong in the second half of the fourth millennium BC. There are no data on the preservation of the cultural layer. In the riverbed of the Iščica it is eroded, but most probably still preserved on the field and meadows of the Iščica’s right bank, although it seems that it is, especially on the field, threatened. In the Iščica, piles and archaeological findings can still be found. / The settlement of Spodnje mostišče is situated in the Iščica and on the field and meadows on its right bank, on fallow Spodnje mostišče.
