Description

The settlement of Stare gmajne 2 is sitauted on the western part of the Stare gmajne site, on the fallow of the same name next to Verd to the southwest of Ljubljansko barje. The site was discovered in 1995, when the co-workers of the Institute of Archaeology, Scientific Research Centre at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences carried out archaeological topography of the site. In 2004, the archaeological-dendrochronological research took place on the site. Two trenches amid fields were studied. Among the more important findings, the remains of two crucibles as utensils for casting copper items stand out. In 2007, several test pits were excavated on the site. An area of 15 m2 was researched. Among the interesting items found, are a stone crucible, a large number of necklace rings and the remains of animal excrements. Based on the results of dendrochronological research and with the use of radiocarbon dating (wiggle-matching), we can place the settlement remains in the first half of 34th century BC. The site is partly threatened due to intensive agriculture. Currently, stratigraphy is excellently preserved. Also the piles are preserved. / The settlement of Stare gmajne 2 is sitauted on the western part of the Stare gmajne site, on the fallow of the same name next to Verd to the southwest of Ljubljansko barje.
